Uniform

Correct grooming is an important part of a dancers training, therefore pupils are actively encouraged to attend class properly attired.

N.B Please do not purchase your uniform from a chain store e.g Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda etc, it is not suitable for our classes.

BALLET LESSONS

NB Ballet shoes must not be bought with too much growth room as this encourages incorrect use of the foot. Please check fit with a teacher before sewing on the elastic.

Tots

Pink  ISTD regulation skirted leotard

Pink suede sole ballet shoes with ankle elastic (please ask where to sew this on). Long hair tied back.

Pre-Primary and Primary

As for Tots: Pink regulation ISTD leotard with attached skirt. IMPORTANTPlease check before purchase as other brands differ in colour and style, so are not correct for exams!

Pink ballet socks ( ballet tights optional in winter) Shoes – as for tots.

White long-sleeved wrapover cardigan, knitting pattern SIRDAR 4979 – close fitting, please, to enable line of spine to be seen.

No underwear necessary.

Hair – tied up if long. Pink hairband if short.

Grade 1

As for Primary but :-

Shoes with ribbons.

Pink ballet socks preferred, otherwise pink ballet tights (seamless preferable).

Hair – if long, must be in bun or plaits coronet. Fringes back preferably. If hair is short, in net and pink stretch hairband.

Grade 2 & 3

As before BUT

Plum leotard with straps – please see us before buying this, it is a particular make ONLY!

Ballet tights (ballet socks can be worn in hot weather)

Grades 4& 5

Plain navy strappy leotard (Plume brand).

Black V neck ballet ‘woolly’

No fringes.

Grade 6, Intermediate Foundation

Plain black ‘strappy’ leotard (no cross-over straps or halter neck).

Pointe shoes, only when advised.

Soft blocked pointe shoes can be worn

Intermediate, Advanced 1 and 2

Any plain colour leotard, otherwise as before.

 

MODERN LESSONS

High neck sleeveless leotard with footless tights or cycling shorts.

Jazz shoes with split soles optional (bare feet preferred for younger pupils). Black trainer socks.

Regulation navy “Linda Shipton Dance” school sweatshirt . ( Ordinary T. & sweatshirts should NOT be worn.)

Hair neatly tied up.

 

TAP LESSONS

As for Modern but black jazz or bootleg trousers may be worn as well (no wide flares).

Black tap shoes with plain black socks.

Hair neatly tied up.

ALL CLASSES

No jewellery or watches to be worn.(earrings, just studs )

Deodorant for older pupils.

Bottled water for classes longer than ¾ hour (or if required)

Please name uniform.

All items can be bought through the school, organised by Miss Laura, (Mrs Gillingham)*. Some items are available from – Dance Vibe in Fore St. and The Dance Shop, Colchester, 01206 616545 (Pointe shoe fitting by appointment only). Regulation leotards should be purchased from the school only.
